About Anne Smith

I am first and foremost a broken, healing daughter of Christ, learning to walk in His way and sit at His feet. I cherish Porch Lights, for there have been many challenges in my life I could not have survived if it were not for the strength of the seasoned women around me, their witness to faith, and the encouragement they have offered. My life has taken many twists and turns, but as a woman who loves adventure, I’m up for the challenge. I am married to an amazing man I met while working in Afghanistan. Our crazy home is made up of three wonderful step-children (ages 14 to 22), twin three-year-old girls, and a brand new baby boy.

The Habits of our Hearts- Do Not Fear

We are starting a new series called “Habits of our Hearts” which will discuss how our daily routines can impact and affect the state of our hearts.  It is fitting that the first post is about fear, as fear seems to have crept into many of our homes and hearts.

Thankful for Community

As the story goes, the First Thanksgiving was a feast to celebrate God’s provision of food and friends to the early Pilgrims.  After suffering a debilitating first winter, the Pilgrims gave thanks for the bountiful harvest which was made possible from the relationship they developed with the Native American Wampanoag tribe. Without community efforts the Pilgrims may not have survived another winter.

Patty’s Hope, Richmond’s Hope

In this blog post, Porch Lights Board Member Anne Smith sits down with Leila Gunning, co-founder of Patty’s Hope. Patty’s Hope is an openly Christian organization that walks alongside mothers whose children are in the foster system. This ministry gives hope not only to those directly impacted but also for our greater city and community.

Getting to Give

God’s design for you is unique and you were created to fulfill a unique part of His Kingdom, including His Kingdom economy. In this blog post, Porch Lights sits down with Julie Wilson to learn more about Women Doing Well, an organization that “exists to activate women of influence to live lives shaped by God’s generosity.”

There is Hope

Porch Lights has the deep pleasure of friendship with an amazing woman, Janice Allen, whose world was torn from the known and placed on a path she could never have imagined. Janice is the CEO/President of International Cooperating Ministries (ICM), the “Global Church Developer.” In this blog post, we share lessons and stories from our chat with Janice.

FIRE & LIGHT in our Hearts

What a tumultuous time, a time for lamentation, a time for action and a time for boldness. There is a burning deep in the hearts of men and women.
